Under general direction and with little guidance, repairs and assesses malfunctions, rebuilds, and performs maintenance on heavy equipment common to construction and military operations, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, tanks, personnel carriers, large diesel trucks, compressors and pneumatic tools. Operates and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantle/reassemble equipment, examine parts for damage or excessive wear, etc. Replace defective engines and subassemblies. Tests repaired/overhauled equipment to ensure safe operating efficiency. May be responsible for welding broken parts, structures and other machinery/attachments.
- Analyze malfunctions and repairs.
- Rebuild, and maintain power equipment such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.
- Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
- Dismantle, and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
- Replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Weld broken parts and structural members.
- At times direct workers engaged in cleaning parts.
- Assist with the assembly and disassembly of equipment.
- Repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.
- Perform field-level automotive maintenance on all equipment assigned or work-loaded to the assigned shop – primarily material handling equipment including military and commercial forklifts, cranes, bulldozers, tractors, earth movers, and mine sweepers.
- Perform field-level maintenance on U.S. military automotive equipment.
- Perform technical Inspections, diagnostics, parts identification and requisition, and repair in accordance with technical specifications and specified repair times.
- Perform A/C repair and service on a wide range of automotive and material-handling equipment.
- Interpret and apply technical instructions, schematics, and diagrams.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand - between 2 to 3 hours per day.
- Must be able to walk - between 4 to 5 hours per day.
- Must be able to Lift - up to 35 lbs. – 50 lbs. periodically.
- Must be able to squat, knell, bend, reach and climb periodically.
- Must be able to work outside and inside in non-climate-controlled environments.
